Dream interpretation

What is a dream? There can be more than a thousand answers to this single question. There are psychological definitions, spiritual definitions and, neurobiological definitions of a dream.

But the question is do dreams mean something? The answer to this question may vary depending on the subject you are searching for your answer from.

One of the well-known neurobiological theories of dreaming is "activation-synthesis analysis" which means that dream has no meaning. Later a lot of theories have been given to interpret the meaning of dreams. One of the studies done by Cristina Marzano at the University of Rome suggested that neurophysiological mechanisms that we practice while dreaming are the same as when we retrieve memories while we are awake. Some more researches, on the other hand, suggest that dreams are meant for a purpose. It is widely believed in psychology that dreams do have meaning. There are Psychological interpretations of a dream. Some well-known theories are:

1. Sigmund Freud's interpretation from his book "The interpretation of dreams"

2. Carl Jung's theory

3. Hall (explained dream as a cognitive process)

4. G. William Domhoff.

There are many more theories other than these that just can't be explained in a single article. Many people have experienced a phenomenon where their dreams became a reality. Coincidence or not, we don't know. A lot more theories may come in the near future if the human interest in dreams will increase.
